Safety guidelines
Please plan to arrive 5-10 min early if possible. For safety reasons we cannot allow students into class more than 15 minutes after it has begun.
We will provide safety glasses for all students, though you are welcome to bring your own from home if you prefer.
Although masks are not required in class, we strongly encourage students to wear masks to help protect against inhaling sawdust.
Please note: safety glasses are required in most of our classes and wearing a mask with a wire nosepiece will help reduce fogging.
Hearing protection is strongly encouraged when using saws and other tools. We will provide several options for hearing protection, but you are welcome to bring your own.
Wear closed-toe shoes — no sandals! (no exceptions)
Long hair must be tied back.
Do not wear any dangling jewelry or baggy clothing.
Liability Waivers
All adult students will be required to sign a Liability Waiver prior to the start of class.
Parents or guardians will be required to sign a Waiver and Release for Minors. We recommend either bringing the completed waiver to class or emailing it in advance to education@rebuildingcenter.org.
COVID-19 POLICY
As of February 1, 2023, students are no longer required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. However, our top priority continues to be safety for our staff, students, and volunteers.
If you have tested positive for COVID-19, or have active flu or cold symptoms—regardless of your vaccination status—we request that you do not attend class. If we are notified at least 7 days in advance, we can switch your registration to a different class; otherwise, you can transfer your registration to another student.
We will reassess our COVID-19 policy on an ongoing basis. We reserve the right to change, adopt and enforce safety measures as needed. We will proactively communicate any change in health protocols and solicit feedback as appropriate.

Accessibility
The ReBuilding Center Education Department works to be accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to students of all skill levels and levels of mobility. Your experience in this class is important to us and we want to prepare in advance the tools and methods that will make all of our students successful.
If you have a disability (including but not limited to learning or attention, vision, mobility, hearing, physical or other health-related) or other health concerns (such as potential for lightheadedness or low blood sugar) that might impact your participation in class, please contact the Education Department at least 24 hours prior to the starting of class to discuss accommodations.
FAQs
Where is the class? Our classes are held in the Education Shop at the ReBuilding Center (3625 N. Mississippi Avenue). The Shop is in the same building as our store and is just north of the decorative cob entrance. The entrance from the street is a glass door that says "ReBuilding Center Education — Enter Here for Classes".
Here are three landmarks to help you find it:
The entrance is right across the street from The Uncanny bar
There will be an A-frame sign on the sidewalk pointing to “Classes”
When should I get there? Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class to settle in and be ready to go! For safety reasons we cannot allow students into class more than 15 minutes after it has begun.
Where do I park? There is plenty of street parking in the area. Note that some areas along N. Mississippi Avenue have time limits of 1 or 2 hours in effect Monday-Saturday, 8am-6pm, though that shouldn’t be a concern for most of our evening and Sunday classes.
How about public transportation? ReBuilding Center address is 3625 N. Mississippi Avenue, Portland, and there is a #4 bus stop nearby. The Yellow Max Line (Overlook Park stop) is about a 15-minute walk away. There’s also parking available on the surrounding streets. Depending on your class, please consider that you may have a large project piece that you might need to carry home on public transportation.
Class fees & donations: Class fees include all materials. Want to throw a little extra in to support our program? There’s a donation option at registration to add any amount that you want to pay forward. A donation receipt will be included with your registration confirmation email.
Scholarships: ReBuilding Center offers two half-price scholarships for every class. To apply for either scholarship, please choose the appropriate option in the “Event Admission” section of the registration process.
Need-based Scholarship for all community members whose income is less than $35,000/year for an individual or $70,000 for a two-earner household.
Cultural Diversity Scholarship to encourage participation by Black, Indigenous, and Latina/o community members (same income requirements as Need-based scholarship).
Ongoing classes: Hear about new class announcements every month, or check out all currently scheduled classes here.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket? No - we'd prefer to save a few trees! We will check your name off the list when you arrive.
Is there a minimum age? Our public classes are open to adults ages 18 and over, as well as 16 and 17 year-olds with parent or guardian permission.
What is your refund policy? We do not offer refunds. You may switch your registration to another class if you contact us at least 7 days in advance, or you can transfer your registration to a different student by sending us an email with the new student’s full name and email address. If you need help finding someone to take your spot, let us know and we will contact folks on the waitlist.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms or have recently tested positive, please contact us at least 7 days before your class to switch your registration to another date.
