COVID-19 Note: this class will be in person in our shop. See below for health and safety precautions.
This is a TWO-DAY class and will run from 5:30-8:30pm on BOTH days.
Day 1 – Monday, December 20
Day 2 – Tuesday, December 21
Cutting boards are useful and can be beautiful works of art, and making one is a great way to learn some basic carpentry skills. In this class you will use reclaimed hardwood to make a simple cutting board of your own design (maximum size 14"x14"). In the process you will learn how to use many tools, including a table saw, chop saw, planer, jointer, and orbital sander. You'll also learn how to do a "glue up" and be introduced to several clamping methods.
This is a project-based class and you'll be able to take your cutting board home after Day 2. You can give it as a gift or use it to enjoy charcuterie for years to come!
Topics covered:
Using table saws and chop saws
How to use a jointer for clean edges
A variety of clamping techniques, including using ropes, clamps, and wedges
Using a thickness planer and sanding to achieve a smooth finish
Sanding techniques
Finishing with food-grade oil
Cost: $100 (total for both days)
