COVID-19 VACCINATION & MASKING REQUIREMENTS

Starting January 1, 2022, all students participating in in-person classes at the ReBuilding Center Education Shop will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test performed within the prior 72 hours. Check out our FAQs & Safety Guidelines for more details.

In addition, masks are required for all students, staff, and volunteers per guidelines announced by the Oregon Health Authority on August 11. Please note: safety glasses are required in most of our classes and wearing a mask with a wire nosepiece will help reduce fogging.

See below for additional health and safety precautions.

This is a TWO-DAY cohort-style class, and has the same start and end times on BOTH days:
- Monday, January 17, 2022 (5:30 - 8:30PM)
- Monday, January 24, 2022 (5:30 - 8:30PM)

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Often touted as the most versatile tool in the shop or garage, the Table Saw is also one of the most powerful (and potentially risky) machines on the market today.

But, when treated with a healthy dose of respect, these machines become trusty companions, saving us great time and money, and opening up all kinds of potential for efficiency and creativity.

On Day 1 we'll start by covering everything from terminology, safe usage, and the most common cuts. On Day 2 we'll get far more advanced. We'll cover basic cabinet and furniture-maker's joinery and show you how to make your cuts with precision. We'll begin with rabbets and dadoes, talk about dado stacks and miter sleds, show you how to make beveled cuts for tea boxes, finger-joints and box joints, and we'll finish by talking about how to make and use table saw jigs.

This is a skills-based class where you will learn a lot about table saws, but you might not make a project to take home.

Topics covered:

  • Basic tablesaw anatomy, maintenance, and safety

  • "Rip cutting" vs. "Cross-cutting"

  • Joinery-related cuts: "box-joints", "finger-joints", "Rabbets" and "Dadoes"

  • Tablesaw accessories for safety and advanced usage: Miter gauges, crosscut sleds, featherboards, tapering-jigs, stop blocks, dado stacks etc.

Cost: $130 (total for both days)
ReBuilding Center offers two half-price scholarships for every class:

  • A BIPOC Scholarship for all BIPOC community members interested in taking a class with us

  • A Need-based Scholarship for all community members whose income is less than $35,000/year for an individual or $70,000 for a two-earner household

To apply for either scholarship, please choose the appropriate option in the “Event Admission” section on the second page of the registration process.

Skill level: This is for adults aged 18 or over. This is a beginner class though some prior experience with woodworking is helpful.
Maximum size of class: 10 students
Class Schedule: Class will run for 3 hours with no break planned
