Creative Reuse: Jewelry Making - $75

  • ReBuilding Center 3625 N Mississippi Ave Portland, OR, 97227 United States (map)

Jewelry-making, like all forms of up-cycled art, is about finding inspiration, demystifying processes, and giving yourself permission to experiment. We’ll do all of those things in this relaxing and accessible beginner-level workshop.

This is a project-based class and you will be able to take your jewelry creations home with you.

This class is taught by local artist Pam Consear from All Hands Art!

Baubles and beads: We’ll provide an imagination-tickling array of cast-off hardware, beads, shells, game pieces, coins, and other small found objects. Have you been stashing broken necklaces and single earrings to re-fashion “someday”? You’re welcome to bring those along!

“Findings” and techniques: We’ll share simple wire-wrapping techniques for making earrings and pendants, and uses of hemp cord for stringing bracelets and necklaces. We’ll also explore ways to cut, pry, or reshape a variety of items to make them more jewelry-ready. This is not about “learning the correct way,” but rather, unleashing your creativity to make jewelry YOUR way. You may never by-pass shiny objects on the sidewalk again.

Skill level: This class is designed for beginners ages 18 and over; no art background is required.

Class Schedule: Class will run for 2 hours with no break planned

Note: Not all materials shown in the photos will be available in class. and you are welcome to bring your own items.
