Exciting shifts are taking place at ReBuilding Center!
We are renovating, reorganizing, and generally spiffying up. In the end, we will have a new workshop, a dedicated space for volunteers, and maybe even solar panels… we certainly have the roof for it!
As we head into our 25th anniversary year, the staff and board of ReBuilding Center are asking how we can build on our strengths to help interrupt the environmental, racial, and economic injustice that continue to fuel our climate crisis. What can we do?
We can harness reuse and repair to keep our communities whole. We can shift our focus to meet the needs of people who are most at risk of losing their homes and most vulnerable to the ravages of environmental disaster. We can empower homeowners and renters to stay in their homes safely, sustainably, and with dignity.
How can we do this?
Over the coming year, you’ll start to see:
higher-quality reclaimed materials
an even better shopping experience
opportunities for free materials for homeowners living with low incomes
free delivery for transit-dependent folks
and even more relevant repair skills classes that everyone can enjoy.
We will be more welcoming, accessible, and convenient, particularly for those most in need of what we offer: affordable materials and the skills and space to repair what needs fixing.
ReBuilding Center will continue to be the funky, fun treasure trove of historic wonder. But, now, we will also be looking to the future and holding ourselves accountable for enacting justice.
There are many pieces to this puzzle that interlock and build upon on one another. Over the next six weeks, we will lay them on the table and illustrate how they fit together.
YOU and your support are the most important piece of all, because together is how we will build that better tomorrow.
