On July 11th, ReBuilding Center partnered with the African American Alliance for Homeownership (AAAH) for our seventh annual Day of Service event. Over 40 community volunteers assisted five Black homeowners throughout North and Northeast Portland neighborhoods!
Volunteers completed essential home projects including porch repair, yard work, waste removal, and gutter cleaning. One team even battled a horde of overgrown blackberries which were successfully defeated and removed!
Day of Service exemplifies the valuable impact of mutual aid and collective action. In just one day of work, event participants created safer, more comfortable, and more sustainable living environments for Portland homeowners. Volunteers provided access to simple home-repair work while forming meaningful relationships with the greater community. Together, people in all sectors of our Day of Service event demonstrated what it means, and what it looks like to build community resilience.
ReBuilding Center is proud to have been involved in Day of Service over the past seven years. We’d like to thank our volunteers, with teams from First Citizens Bank, the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, and the Portland Water Bureau, in addition to 25 community members. A special thanks to the Portland Water Bureau, who also sponsored this year’s event. We recognize and value your dedication to building community resilience! Thank you.
