Over the years, the ReBuilding Center has been fortunate to collaborate with local artists and community organizations to bring beauty and placemaking through art to our building on North Mississippi Avenue. Most recently, Forest for the Trees facilitated the installation of a new mural on our building with local artists, Nia Musiba and Pace Taylor.
Nia and Pace’s work can be found towards the north end of our building, facing Mississippi Avenue. Previously, this area was unassuming, but now, it is a must-see. With vibrant colors, Pace and Nia’s mural work brings forth representations of identities to which much of our community can relate. If you haven’t experienced it yet, here is a snapshot of their work:
Forest for the Trees organizer Gage Hamilton says, “Forest for the Trees is a nonprofit that focuses on ensuring the role of artists in the visual landscape of Portland, as well as around the state. We have produced over 90 contemporary public murals over the past 7 years, showcasing the work of local, national, and international artists from nearly 20 countries.” Learn more about their work, here.
We are incredibly grateful to Forest for the Trees for facilitating this process and to both Nia and Pace for bringing such creativity and unique talent to the canvas of our building. Artists Nia and Pace reflected on their experiences via Instagram (see below). Give ‘em a read, and be sure to stop and admire their work the next time you’re walking past!
